Solar Panels in Tallahassee, FL: 2026 Cost, City of Tallahassee Util Net Metering & Savings

Short answer

Tallahassee is served mainly by City of Tallahassee Utilities. The 2025 EIA residential average for Florida was $0.152 per kWh. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 4.9 peak sun hours a day. Neither number is your tariff or a roof study. Statewide context is on the Florida solar page.

Tallahassee and the bill

The City of Tallahassee Utilities serves the city. Leon County addresses outside the city system can be on Talquin Electric Cooperative or another provider. A Capitol-area search result about 'Florida Power & Light rebates' is the wrong company. Tallahassee is not Miami with a different headline. The solar resource is closer to Jacksonville's than to Fort Myers'. The canopy is heavier. Winter mornings are cooler, summer afternoons still need air conditioning, and the municipal utility writes its own rules. People move here for the universities and state government and sometimes leave on a shorter timetable than a retiree in Sarasota. Length of stay belongs in the decision. The 2025 EIA residential average for Florida was 15.21 cents per kWh. That statewide figure is what our calculator uses. It is not the City of Tallahassee Util tariff. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 4.9 peak sun hours a day.

Export credits and any SREC or REC

City of Tallahassee Util serves Tallahassee, and Florida does not have one export credit for the state. Florida Power & Light, Duke Energy Florida, Tampa Electric, and municipal utilities such as OUC, JEA, Lakeland Electric, and the City of Tallahassee each publish their own rider. A neighboring city can be a different company. There is no Florida SREC price to put next to the bill. The proposal has to name the rider. Wind design follows the Florida Building Code and is stricter on exposed coasts than inland. An array is not a storm shelter and it is not an insurance promise.

Roofs, climate, permits, and HOAs

Wood-frame houses under hardwoods and pines are common. Shade losses can dominate. A new subdivision east of town with a young roof and an open lot is a different bid from a canopy street near Midtown. Say which one you have. A Tallahassee permit comes from the local building department, not from City of Tallahassee Util. An HOA can add its own review. This page does not quote a FL permit fee or an approval, because both depend on the address. Get a shade assessment if you can see trees over the roof from the street. Ask the city utility for its current interconnection rules rather than assuming an FPL rider applies. Our statewide rate will not match a municipal tariff.

Estimated cost range

Estimated cost range for Tallahassee, labeled as an estimate and not a local quote: Berkeley Lab's August 2026 update put 2025 host-owned residential systems at about $3.60 per watt before incentives, about $3.00 per watt in the cash subset, and about $4.50 per watt in the loan subset. The median size in that set was 7.7 kW. Tallahassee is about 4.9 peak sun hours a day, against about 5.2 statewide. The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.

Tallahassee questions

Is Tallahassee on FPL?

No. The city utility serves Tallahassee. Rural Leon County may be a cooperative.

Why mention length of stay?

A long payback is harder to justify if you expect to move in a few years. Owned solar is attached to the house. A lease can be even harder to hand off.

What export rule should a Tallahassee proposal name?

Name City of Tallahassee Util and the current rider or retail plan. Florida does not have one price that replaces the document on your bill. This page does not decide eligibility.

Is the Tallahassee cost range a quote?

No. It applies Berkeley Lab's 2025 national medians, about $3.00, $3.60, and $4.50 per watt depending on the cash or loan subset, to illustrate a range. Your roof, the main panel, and the local permit can move it.

Does the federal tax credit apply to a new Tallahassee system in 2026?

The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.
