Solar Panels in Fort Myers, FL: 2026 Cost, Florida Power & Light Net Metering & Savings
Short answer
Fort Myers is served mainly by Florida Power & Light (FPL). The 2025 EIA residential average for Florida was $0.152 per kWh. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 5.2 peak sun hours a day. Neither number is your tariff or a roof study. Statewide context is on the Florida solar page.
Fort Myers and the bill
Fort Myers and most of Lee County are on Florida Power & Light. Cape Coral is a separate city with its own permit office and the same utility for most addresses. Do not mix the two permit processes. Fort Myers learned in recent hurricanes that roofs are the main event. Solar belongs in that sentence, not above it. A code-compliant array on a new roof is a reasonable project. An array on a tired roof is a future tear-off. Snowbird occupancy also changes the math: if the house is empty in summer, the solar still produces while nobody is home to use it, and the export credit becomes most of the value. That is a tariff question, and it is sharper here than in a year-round Orlando house. The 2025 EIA residential average for Florida was 15.21 cents per kWh. That statewide figure is what our calculator uses. It is not the Florida Power & Light tariff. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 5.2 peak sun hours a day.
Export credits and any SREC or REC
Florida Power & Light serves Fort Myers, and Florida does not have one export credit for the state. Florida Power & Light, Duke Energy Florida, Tampa Electric, and municipal utilities such as OUC, JEA, Lakeland Electric, and the City of Tallahassee each publish their own rider. A neighboring city can be a different company. There is no Florida SREC price to put next to the bill. The proposal has to name the rider. Wind design follows the Florida Building Code and is stricter on exposed coasts than inland. An array is not a storm shelter and it is not an insurance promise.
Roofs, climate, permits, and HOAs
Single-story block homes with hip roofs are common. Hip roofs have less usable south plane than gable roofs of the same size. Many communities are deed-restricted. The restriction may not be allowed to ban solar outright, and it can still specify placement. Read it before you pay for design. A Fort Myers permit comes from the local building department, not from Florida Power & Light. An HOA can add its own review. This page does not quote a FL permit fee or an approval, because both depend on the address.
Estimated cost range
Estimated cost range for Fort Myers, labeled as an estimate and not a local quote: Berkeley Lab's August 2026 update put 2025 host-owned residential systems at about $3.60 per watt before incentives, about $3.00 per watt in the cash subset, and about $4.50 per watt in the loan subset. The median size in that set was 7.7 kW. Fort Myers is about 5.2 peak sun hours a day, against about 5.2 statewide. The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.

Fort Myers questions
Is Fort Myers the same project as Cape Coral?
Often the same utility, FPL, and not the same building department. Price and schedule can differ.
Does a seasonal home change the savings?
It can. If you are gone when the array produces the most, more energy is exported, and the export credit matters more.
What export rule should a Fort Myers proposal name?
Name Florida Power & Light and the current rider or retail plan. Florida does not have one price that replaces the document on your bill. This page does not decide eligibility.
Is the Fort Myers cost range a quote?
No. It applies Berkeley Lab's 2025 national medians, about $3.00, $3.60, and $4.50 per watt depending on the cash or loan subset, to illustrate a range. Your roof, the main panel, and the local permit can move it.
Does the federal tax credit apply to a new Fort Myers system in 2026?
The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.
