Solar Panels in Clearwater, FL: 2026 Cost, Duke Energy Florida Net Metering & Savings
Short answer
Clearwater is served mainly by Duke Energy Florida. The 2025 EIA residential average for Florida was $0.152 per kWh. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 5.2 peak sun hours a day. Neither number is your tariff or a roof study. Statewide context is on the Florida solar page.
Clearwater and the bill
Clearwater is in Duke Energy Florida territory. Beach addresses and inland Clearwater addresses can share a utility and still need different structural assumptions because the wind exposure is not the same. Clearwater splits between the mainland and the barrier island. Island roofs take salt air and higher wind exposure. Mainland roofs behave more like the rest of north Pinellas. A single 'Clearwater solar price' erases that split. Production on an unshaded south roof can be similar to Tampa's resource. The construction cost and the insurance conversation often are not. The 2025 EIA residential average for Florida was 15.21 cents per kWh. That statewide figure is what our calculator uses. It is not the Duke Energy Florida tariff. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 5.2 peak sun hours a day.
Export credits and any SREC or REC
Duke Energy Florida serves Clearwater, and Florida does not have one export credit for the state. Florida Power & Light, Duke Energy Florida, Tampa Electric, and municipal utilities such as OUC, JEA, Lakeland Electric, and the City of Tallahassee each publish their own rider. A neighboring city can be a different company. There is no Florida SREC price to put next to the bill. The proposal has to name the rider. Wind design follows the Florida Building Code and is stricter on exposed coasts than inland. An array is not a storm shelter and it is not an insurance promise.
Roofs, climate, permits, and HOAs
Condos and villas are a larger share of the beach housing stock than in Lakeland or even much of Tampa. Condo roofs are often commonly owned. The association, not the unit owner, may be the only party who can approve an array. A villa with a private roof is a different legal object. Ask which one you have before you collect bids. A Clearwater permit comes from the local building department, not from Duke Energy Florida. An HOA can add its own review. This page does not quote a FL permit fee or an approval, because both depend on the address. If an HOA or condo board has to vote, put that time in the schedule. Ask the installer for coastal attachment hardware, not a generic inland bill of materials. Duke's interconnection timeline is theirs. We do not publish a fake number of days.
Estimated cost range
Estimated cost range for Clearwater, labeled as an estimate and not a local quote: Berkeley Lab's August 2026 update put 2025 host-owned residential systems at about $3.60 per watt before incentives, about $3.00 per watt in the cash subset, and about $4.50 per watt in the loan subset. The median size in that set was 7.7 kW. Clearwater is about 5.2 peak sun hours a day, against about 5.2 statewide. The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.

Clearwater questions
Can I put panels on a Clearwater condo?
Only if you have rights to the roof and the association agrees, or the association is the customer. Many unit owners do not control the roof.
Is the sun resource different from Tampa?
Not in a way our rounded metro figure can see. Both are about 5.2 peak sun hours. Wind and ownership of the roof are the bigger local differences.
What export rule should a Clearwater proposal name?
Name Duke Energy Florida and the current rider or retail plan. Florida does not have one price that replaces the document on your bill. This page does not decide eligibility.
Is the Clearwater cost range a quote?
No. It applies Berkeley Lab's 2025 national medians, about $3.00, $3.60, and $4.50 per watt depending on the cash or loan subset, to illustrate a range. Your roof, the main panel, and the local permit can move it.
Does the federal tax credit apply to a new Clearwater system in 2026?
The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.
