Solar Panels in Orlando, FL: 2026 Cost, OUC Net Metering & Savings
Short answer
Orlando is served mainly by Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC), with Duke Energy Florida across much of the metro. The 2025 EIA residential average for Florida was $0.152 per kWh. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 5.1 peak sun hours a day. Neither number is your tariff or a roof study. Statewide context is on the Florida solar page.
Orlando and the bill
Orlando Utilities Commission is the municipal utility for a large part of the city. Many Orange County addresses outside that territory are Duke Energy Florida. A Winter Park or Kissimmee bill can be a third company. Do not send an OUC proposal to a Duke address. Orlando is inland. Hurricane wind still matters, and the design wind speed is generally less severe than on the open Gulf, but it is not zero. Daily thunderstorms in summer cut production the same way they do on the coast. The useful local fact is the utility boundary. OUC sets its own solar tariffs. Duke sets others. The EIA state average used on this site is neither of those documents. The 2025 EIA residential average for Florida was 15.21 cents per kWh. That statewide figure is what our calculator uses. It is not the OUC tariff. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 5.1 peak sun hours a day.
Export credits and any SREC or REC
OUC serves Orlando, and Florida does not have one export credit for the state. Florida Power & Light, Duke Energy Florida, Tampa Electric, and municipal utilities such as OUC, JEA, Lakeland Electric, and the City of Tallahassee each publish their own rider. A neighboring city can be a different company. There is no Florida SREC price to put next to the bill. The proposal has to name the rider. Wind design follows the Florida Building Code and is stricter on exposed coasts than inland. An array is not a storm shelter and it is not an insurance promise.
Roofs, climate, permits, and HOAs
Subdivision roofs from the last thirty years dominate large parts of the metro. Many are asphalt shingle with a simple hip shape, which is a straightforward array if the roof is young. Older oaks in College Park and similar neighborhoods create shade that a new subdivision does not have. Tourist-corridor low-rise roofs are a different building type and often a commercial account. A Orlando permit comes from the local building department, not from OUC. An HOA can add its own review. This page does not quote a FL permit fee or an approval, because both depend on the address. Confirm OUC versus Duke before you compare prices per watt. A municipal interconnection is not an investor-owned interconnection. Ask whether the proposal assumes you can transfer credits across a year or only inside a billing cycle.
Estimated cost range
Estimated cost range for Orlando, labeled as an estimate and not a local quote: Berkeley Lab's August 2026 update put 2025 host-owned residential systems at about $3.60 per watt before incentives, about $3.00 per watt in the cash subset, and about $4.50 per watt in the loan subset. The median size in that set was 7.7 kW. Orlando is about 5.1 peak sun hours a day, against about 5.2 statewide. The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.

Orlando questions
Is all of Orlando on OUC?
No. OUC covers much of the city. A large share of the metro is Duke Energy Florida or another provider. Read the bill.
Does inland Orlando skip hurricane design?
No. The Florida Building Code still applies. The design wind speed is location-specific and usually lower than on the coast. The installer should show the number they used.
What export rule should a Orlando proposal name?
Name OUC and the current rider or retail plan. Florida does not have one price that replaces the document on your bill. This page does not decide eligibility.
Is the Orlando cost range a quote?
No. It applies Berkeley Lab's 2025 national medians, about $3.00, $3.60, and $4.50 per watt depending on the cash or loan subset, to illustrate a range. Your roof, the main panel, and the local permit can move it.
Does the federal tax credit apply to a new Orlando system in 2026?
The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.
