Florida
Solar Panels in Sarasota, FL: 2026 Cost, Florida Power & Light Net Metering & Savings
Short answer
Sarasota is served mainly by Florida Power & Light (FPL). The 2025 EIA residential average for Florida was $0.152 per kWh. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 5.2 peak sun hours a day. Neither number is your tariff or a roof study. Statewide context is on the Florida solar page.
Sarasota and the bill
Sarasota and most of Sarasota County are Florida Power & Light customers. The city of Sarasota and Sarasota County do not share every permit form. Siesta Key and the mainland do not share wind exposure. Sarasota's mainland neighborhoods and its keys are different solar jobs. Keys and barrier islands have higher wind exposure, flood considerations, and more roofs the owner does not fully control. Mainland houses east of the trail are closer to a typical Florida subdivision project. The sun resource is similar. The friction is not. The 2025 EIA residential average for Florida was 15.21 cents per kWh. That statewide figure is what our calculator uses. It is not the Florida Power & Light tariff. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 5.2 peak sun hours a day.
Export credits and any SREC or REC
Florida Power & Light serves Sarasota, and Florida does not have one export credit for the state. Florida Power & Light, Duke Energy Florida, Tampa Electric, and municipal utilities such as OUC, JEA, Lakeland Electric, and the City of Tallahassee each publish their own rider. A neighboring city can be a different company. There is no Florida SREC price to put next to the bill. The proposal has to name the rider. Wind design follows the Florida Building Code and is stricter on exposed coasts than inland. An array is not a storm shelter and it is not an insurance promise.
Roofs, climate, permits, and HOAs
Tile roofs and mid-century ranches both show up west of I-75. Farther east, newer shingle roofs are easier layouts. Tree cover in older subdivisions is the main production risk. Association rules in master-planned communities are the main schedule risk. A Sarasota permit comes from the local building department, not from Florida Power & Light. An HOA can add its own review. This page does not quote a FL permit fee or an approval, because both depend on the address. Separate the island address from the mainland address when you ask for a bid. Ask for FPL's rider by name. If you are comparing Sarasota with Tampa, remember Tampa is usually TECO. The state average in our estimate hides that difference on purpose so the assumption stays visible.
Estimated cost range
Estimated cost range for Sarasota, labeled as an estimate and not a local quote: Berkeley Lab's August 2026 update put 2025 host-owned residential systems at about $3.60 per watt before incentives, about $3.00 per watt in the cash subset, and about $4.50 per watt in the loan subset. The median size in that set was 7.7 kW. Sarasota is about 5.2 peak sun hours a day, against about 5.2 statewide. The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.

Sarasota questions
Who is the utility in Sarasota?
Florida Power & Light for the large majority of addresses. Check the bill.
Is Siesta Key a normal roof for solar?
It is a coastal roof. Wind design, flood context, and who owns the roof all need a specific answer. Do not use a mainland allowance.
What export rule should a Sarasota proposal name?
Name Florida Power & Light and the current rider or retail plan. Florida does not have one price that replaces the document on your bill. This page does not decide eligibility.
Is the Sarasota cost range a quote?
No. It applies Berkeley Lab's 2025 national medians, about $3.00, $3.60, and $4.50 per watt depending on the cash or loan subset, to illustrate a range. Your roof, the main panel, and the local permit can move it.
Does the federal tax credit apply to a new Sarasota system in 2026?
The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.
