Solar Panels in Miami, FL: 2026 Cost, Florida Power & Light Net Metering & Savings

Short answer

Miami is served mainly by Florida Power & Light (FPL). The 2025 EIA residential average for Florida was $0.152 per kWh. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 5.3 peak sun hours a day. Neither number is your tariff or a roof study. Statewide context is on the Florida solar page.

Miami and the bill

Florida Power & Light serves Miami and most of Miami-Dade. Municipal utilities are not the story here the way they are in Jacksonville or Orlando. FPL's own riders still have to be read. 'FPL territory' is not a number of cents. Miami has one of the better solar resources in the state and one of the harder insurance and wind conversations. Roofs are often concrete tile. Tile work is slower and easier to get wrong than asphalt shingle. Condo and high-rise roofs are common and frequently not available to a single unit owner. Single-family houses in the suburbs are the straightforward solar candidate. Flood zones do not stop an array, and an array does not stop a flood. The 2025 EIA residential average for Florida was 15.21 cents per kWh. That statewide figure is what our calculator uses. It is not the Florida Power & Light tariff. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 5.3 peak sun hours a day.

Export credits and any SREC or REC

Florida Power & Light serves Miami, and Florida does not have one export credit for the state. Florida Power & Light, Duke Energy Florida, Tampa Electric, and municipal utilities such as OUC, JEA, Lakeland Electric, and the City of Tallahassee each publish their own rider. A neighboring city can be a different company. There is no Florida SREC price to put next to the bill. The proposal has to name the rider. Wind design follows the Florida Building Code and is stricter on exposed coasts than inland. An array is not a storm shelter and it is not an insurance promise.

Roofs, climate, permits, and HOAs

Tile, flat roofs with parapets, and barrel tile all show up. Each needs a mounting plan that the tile manufacturer and the roofer will stand behind. Houses under mango and oak canopy in older neighborhoods lose production that a new Homestead subdivision does not. Homestead and the far south of the county are still mostly FPL, with wide-open roofs and serious wind design. A Miami permit comes from the local building department, not from Florida Power & Light. An HOA can add its own review. This page does not quote a FL permit fee or an approval, because both depend on the address.

Estimated cost range

Estimated cost range for Miami, labeled as an estimate and not a local quote: Berkeley Lab's August 2026 update put 2025 host-owned residential systems at about $3.60 per watt before incentives, about $3.00 per watt in the cash subset, and about $4.50 per watt in the loan subset. The median size in that set was 7.7 kW. Miami is about 5.3 peak sun hours a day, against about 5.2 statewide. The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.

Miami questions

Can a condo owner in Miami add solar?

Only with roof rights and association approval. Many high-rise unit owners do not have those rights.

Is Miami's utility FPL?

Yes for the large majority of Miami-Dade addresses. Confirm on the bill anyway.

What export rule should a Miami proposal name?

Name Florida Power & Light and the current rider or retail plan. Florida does not have one price that replaces the document on your bill. This page does not decide eligibility.

Is the Miami cost range a quote?

No. It applies Berkeley Lab's 2025 national medians, about $3.00, $3.60, and $4.50 per watt depending on the cash or loan subset, to illustrate a range. Your roof, the main panel, and the local permit can move it.

Does the federal tax credit apply to a new Miami system in 2026?

The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.
