Solar Panels in Fresno, CA: 2026 Cost, Pacific Gas and Electric Net Metering & Savings
Short answer
Fresno is served mainly by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E). The 2025 EIA residential average for California was $0.314 per kWh. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 5.5 peak sun hours a day. Neither number is your tariff or a roof study. Statewide context is on the California solar page.
Fresno and the bill
PG&E serves Fresno. Net billing for new systems is the statewide investor-owned framework, implemented on PG&E's schedules. Agricultural accounts around the city are a different rate class from a house. Fresno is a cooling-load city with excellent sun and serious summer heat. The economic case is the retail rate you avoid by using solar while the air conditioner runs, not a fantasy of selling noon power at full retail. Dust and agricultural haze are small production factors. Heat is a larger one. Outages happen. A battery is optional and should be priced as optional. The 2025 EIA residential average for California was 31.35 cents per kWh. That statewide figure is what our calculator uses. It is not the Pacific Gas and Electric tariff. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 5.5 peak sun hours a day.
Export credits and any SREC or REC
Pacific Gas and Electric serves Fresno. For a new interconnection at PG&E, Southern California Edison, or SDG&E, the net billing tariff replaced classic full-retail net metering. Exports are compensated on an avoided-cost basis that varies by hour, which is why a battery shows up in so many California proposals. Community choice aggregators sit on top of delivery and do not erase the delivery utility's interconnection rules. This page does not quote an export cent. Self-consumption is worth more, on that tariff, than a chart that prices every kilowatt-hour at retail.
Roofs, climate, permits, and HOAs
Single-story houses with composition shingles are the usual candidate. Older panels and Federal Pacific-era equipment, where it still exists, can force an electrical upgrade. Roof age in mid-century neighborhoods is the other gate. A Fresno permit comes from the local building department, not from Pacific Gas and Electric. An HOA can add its own review. This page does not quote a CA permit fee or an approval, because both depend on the address. Ask for temperature-adjusted production. Ask which PG&E schedule the savings use. If you have a separate well or shop meter, do not blend it into the house without saying so.
Estimated cost range
Estimated cost range for Fresno, labeled as an estimate and not a local quote: Berkeley Lab's August 2026 update put 2025 host-owned residential systems at about $3.60 per watt before incentives, about $3.00 per watt in the cash subset, and about $4.50 per watt in the loan subset. The median size in that set was 7.7 kW. Fresno is about 5.5 peak sun hours a day, against about 5.5 statewide. The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.

Fresno questions
Who serves Fresno homes?
PG&E for typical residential addresses.
Is the resource closer to the coast or the desert?
Inland and strong. We use about 5.5 peak sun hours, above San Jose and below the low desert.
What export rule should a Fresno proposal name?
Name Pacific Gas and Electric and the current rider or retail plan. California does not have one price that replaces the document on your bill. This page does not decide eligibility.
Is the Fresno cost range a quote?
No. It applies Berkeley Lab's 2025 national medians, about $3.00, $3.60, and $4.50 per watt depending on the cash or loan subset, to illustrate a range. Your roof, the main panel, and the local permit can move it.
Does the federal tax credit apply to a new Fresno system in 2026?
The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.
