Solar Panels in Stamford, CT: 2026 Cost, Eversource Net Metering & Savings

Short answer

Stamford is served mainly by Eversource. The 2025 EIA residential average for Connecticut was $0.293 per kWh. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 4.1 peak sun hours a day. Neither number is your tariff or a roof study. Statewide context is on the Connecticut solar page.

Stamford and the bill

Stamford is Eversource territory. It is not on United Illuminating, which serves Bridgeport and New Haven farther east along the same coast. Stamford's electric price is a Connecticut price, and the sun is a coastal New England sun. Downtown condominiums are a board-and-meter problem, not a single-family layout. North Stamford houses have more roof and more trees. The export rule is Eversource's Residential Renewable Energy Solutions tariff. A high retail rate does not turn a shaded, failing roof into a good project. The 2025 EIA residential average for Connecticut was 29.31 cents per kWh. That statewide figure is what our calculator uses. It is not the Eversource tariff. A rounded solar resource for this metro is about 4.1 peak sun hours a day.

Export credits and any SREC or REC

Eversource serves Stamford. New residential projects use Residential Renewable Energy Solutions, the successor to legacy net metering and to the old Connecticut Green Bank incentive. The 2026 program manual lists a buy-all rate of $0.3289 per kWh for applications received that year, and a netting structure that credits exports at the retail rate then in effect, with a $0.0402 per kWh solar energy adjustment on netting production. Eligibility is the utility's decision. United Illuminating customers on the coast are on the same program name and a different company.

Roofs, climate, permits, and HOAs

Expect a split between multifamily downtown and detached colonials and contemporaries to the north. Some roofs are complex, with many small planes. Shade from hardwoods is the production issue on wooded lots. A Stamford permit comes from the local building department, not from Eversource. An HOA can add its own review. This page does not quote a CT permit fee or an approval, because both depend on the address. Confirm you own the roof and the meter. Ask which RRES structure the model used. If the chart assumes a full retail credit on every kilowatt-hour, including midday exports under buy-all, ask for the manual page it came from.

Estimated cost range

Estimated cost range for Stamford, labeled as an estimate and not a local quote: Berkeley Lab's August 2026 update put 2025 host-owned residential systems at about $3.60 per watt before incentives, about $3.00 per watt in the cash subset, and about $4.50 per watt in the loan subset. The median size in that set was 7.7 kW. Stamford is about 4.1 peak sun hours a day, against about 4.0 statewide. The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.

Stamford questions

Same utility as Bridgeport?

No. Stamford is typically Eversource. Bridgeport is typically United Illuminating.

Do condos qualify the same way as houses?

Often no. Roof control and the meter have to be yours, or the association's process has to allow it. We do not promise that.

What export rule should a Stamford proposal name?

Name Eversource and the current rider or retail plan. Connecticut does not have one price that replaces the document on your bill. This page does not decide eligibility.

Is the Stamford cost range a quote?

No. It applies Berkeley Lab's 2025 national medians, about $3.00, $3.60, and $4.50 per watt depending on the cash or loan subset, to illustrate a range. Your roof, the main panel, and the local permit can move it.

Does the federal tax credit apply to a new Stamford system in 2026?

The federal residential credit under 26 U.S.C. § 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats that expenditure as made when the original installation is completed.
