How much do solar panels cost in Pennsylvania?

American Solar Savings Editors · Published 2026-10-20 · Updated 2026-11-04

There is no single Pennsylvania price. Berkeley Lab's August 2026 update put the median up-front price of host-owned, stand-alone U.S. residential systems installed in 2025 at about $3.60 per watt before incentives. Cash purchases in the subset they could classify were about $3.00 per watt, and loan-financed systems about $4.50 per watt. A Philadelphia rowhouse and a Lancaster township roof will not both land on that median.

What changes the bid

The median system in that dataset was 7.7 kW, roughly $28,000 at $3.60 per watt before incentives. Roof age, a small city plane, and a main-panel upgrade move the number more than the difference between Allentown and Harrisburg sun hours. PECO, PPL, Duquesne Light, and Met-Ed are not one interconnection.

Leases are not in that median. Compare a lease by the payment schedule. See lease versus buy.

Credits are not a discount we print

The federal residential credit under section 25D ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. Installation completion is the IRS test. Pennsylvania solar renewable energy credits can be registered and sold, and the price moves. A proposal may count them only with a current contract. We do not promise a payment. The SREC guide keeps that separate from the installed price.

The bill

The 2025 EIA residential average for Pennsylvania was 19.29 cents per kWh. That is not a PECO rate. Our estimate uses the state average and labels the result an estimate. Start with the utility name, the cash price, and whether the roof needs replacing. City notes for Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, and Lancaster name the usual company.
