Questions to ask a solar installer
American Solar Savings Editors · Published 2026-09-28 · Updated 2026-11-01
Ask these before you pay a deposit. A friendly visit is not a substitute.
License and insurance
Who is the licensed company, and does the name match the contract? Where do I check the license tomorrow morning? Can I see a current insurance certificate for that same name?
The price
What is the cash price for this equipment? If there is a loan, what is the APR, the term, the dealer fee in dollars, and the monthly payment? What is excluded: roof replacement, panel upgrade, trenching?
Production
What tilt, azimuth, and shade loss are in the model? Which weather file? What export price did you use, and what is the tariff's real name? Will you rerun the chart if that price is wrong?
The roof and the permit
How old is the roof, and who pays to remove the array later? What wind or hail design are you using? Who pulls the permit and who files the interconnection?
After they leave
Who honors the workmanship warranty if you close? How do I see production without your login?
American Solar Savings can help you compare installers. We do not replace this list, and we do not install the system. The longer version is choosing an installer. Where this site shows reviews, they are reviews of the installer named there, not of us.

Enter a ZIP code and a typical electric bill. The result is an estimate, not a quote, and it shows the assumptions.
